WHAT CAN PICO LASER TREAT?

Pico Laser can treat many of the most common types of unwanted pigmentation, including sun spots, freckles, age spots and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Age Spots

Defined areas of pigmentation that become more common after years of accumulated sun exposure.

Melasma

Hormonal pigmentation that appears as larger patches, usually on the face.

Selected cases may be suitable for Pico Laser following a skin assessment.

Acne Marks (Post-Inflammatory Pigmentation)

Dark marks left behind after acne, injury or skin inflammation.

Uneven Skin Tone

Patchy pigmentation that leaves the complexion looking inconsistent.

Freckles & Sun Spots

Freckles: Small pigmented spots that often darken with UV exposure.

Sun Spots: Flat brown spots caused by years of sun exposure.

IS PICO LASER EFFECTIVE FOR PIGMENTATION?

Yes. Pico Laser is an effective treatment for many common types of pigmentation, including sun spots, freckles, age spots and selected post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Pico Laser works by delivering ultra-short pulses of laser energy into concentrated pigment beneath the skin. The pigment absorbs the energy and is broken into much smaller particles, which your body gradually processes following treatment.

This allows us to target unwanted pigment with precision while limiting unnecessary heat exposure to the surrounding skin.

For suitable pigmentation, you may notice dark spots becoming lighter, areas of sun damage appearing less visible and your overall complexion looking clearer and more even.

Some pigmentation may respond noticeably after a single treatment, while deeper, more widespread or long-standing pigmentation may require a course of Pico Laser treatments to achieve the best result.

The goal is simple: less visible pigmentation and a clearer, more even-looking complexion.

WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT?

Pico Laser results develop gradually as your body clears the pigment targeted during treatment.

While every skin responds differently, many clients begin to notice treated pigmentation becoming less visible over the weeks following their appointment.

Immediately After Treatment

Your skin may appear slightly pink, similar to mild sun exposure. Some areas of pigmentation may temporarily become darker as they begin responding to the laser.

After 1 Week

The treated pigment gradually rises towards the surface of the skin. This is a normal part of the healing process and an early sign that the pigment has responded to treatment.

After 2 - 4 Weeks

Your body naturally clears the shattered pigment particles, allowing the treated areas to become progressively lighter while your overall skin tone appears brighter and more even.

After Completing Your Treatment Plan

As each treatment builds on the last, pigmentation continues to fade and your skin becomes clearer, healthier and more even in tone. Many clients also notice an improvement in overall skin quality and radiance.

WHY CHOOSE PICO LASER FOR PIGMENTATION?

Pigmentation can be stubborn.

Even with good skincare, sunscreen and brightening ingredients, areas of concentrated pigment may remain visible because the pigment you're trying to improve isn't always sitting at the surface of the skin.

Pico Laser allows us to target that concentrated pigment directly.

✅️ TARGETS PIGMENT WITH PRECISION

Laser energy is directed towards unwanted pigment rather than simply treating the entire surface of the skin.

✅️ MINIMAL DOWNTIME

Most clients can return to their usual routine quickly following treatment, although temporary redness and darkening of treated pigment can occur.

✅️ TREATS MULTIPLE TYPES OF PIGMENTATION

Pico can be used for concerns including sun spots, freckles, age spots and selected post-inflammatory pigmentation.

✅️ PROGRESSIVE RESULTS

Pigmentation continues to change after your appointment as the treated pigment is gradually processed by the body.

✅️ MORE EVEN-LOOKING SKIN

As concentrated dark spots become less visible, the complexion can appear clearer, brighter and more uniform.

HOW DOES PICO LASER REMOVE PIGMENTATION?

Pico Laser uses extremely short pulses of laser energy to target and break down unwanted pigment within the skin.

Rather than relying primarily on heat, the rapid delivery of energy causes concentrated pigment to fragment into much smaller particles.

Your body can then gradually process those fragments following treatment.

01

TARGET

Pico energy is directed into the unwanted pigment.

02

BREAK

The concentrated pigment is fragmented into much smaller particles.

03

CLEAR

Your body gradually processes the fragmented pigment, allowing the area to fade.

HOW MANY PICO LASER SESSIONS ARE NEEDED FOR PIGMENTATION?

The number of Pico Laser sessions needed for pigmentation varies, but some superficial sun spots and freckles may show noticeable improvement after just one treatment. Deeper, more widespread or long-standing pigmentation may require a course of treatments.

This is why two people with pigmentation can need very different treatment plans.

SUPERFICIAL SUN SPOTS & FRECKLES

Defined areas of superficial pigment can sometimes respond quickly, with visible fading developing after treatment.

WIDESPREAD SUN DAMAGE

When pigmentation is scattered across a larger area, multiple treatments may be recommended to progressively improve the overall complexion.

POST-INFLAMMATORY PIGMENTATION

The number of sessions depends on the depth, extent and cause of the pigmentation, as well as how your skin responds.

DEEPER OR MORE COMPLEX PIGMENTATION

More persistent pigmentation may require a longer treatment plan or a combination of in-clinic treatments and professional skincare.

IS PICO LASER WORTH IT FOR PIGMENTATION?

Yes. If stubborn pigmentation is your main concern, Pico Laser can be worth it for its ability to directly target concentrated pigment that skincare alone may not shift.

For suitable sun spots, freckles and dark marks, Pico can create visible improvement while helping the overall complexion appear clearer and more even.

If you've been treating pigmentation from the surface without seeing the change you want, it may be time to target the pigment itself.

DOES PIGMENTATION GET DARKER AFTER PICO LASER?

Yes. Treated pigmentation can temporarily appear darker before it fades.

This is a normal response for some types of pigment. Don't pick or exfoliate the area - allow it to progress naturally and follow your Kalani aftercare.

Darkening doesn't necessarily mean your pigmentation is getting worse. It can be part of the treatment process.

WHAT ABOUT MELASMA?

Melasma requires a more considered approach than ordinary sun spots or freckles.

Pico Laser may be suitable for selected cases, but because melasma can be influenced by hormones, sun exposure and other triggers, your skin should be assessed before treatment.

If we believe Pico is appropriate for your melasma, we'll build your treatment plan accordingly.

IS PICO LASER BETTER THAN MICRONEEDLING FOR PIGMENTATION?

If pigmentation is your main concern, Pico Laser is the more targeted treatment. Microneedling is better suited when acne scarring, enlarged pores or uneven texture are the priority.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pico Laser For Pigmentation

Yes, Pico Laser can be highly effective for reducing suitable sun spots by targeting the excess pigment responsible for their darker appearance.

As the treated pigment is broken down and gradually processed, the spot can become lighter and less noticeable against the surrounding complexion.

Avoid picking or scratching treated areas, unnecessary sun exposure and aggressive skincare while your skin is recovering.

Treated pigmentation may temporarily become darker, and it's important to allow this process to occur naturally.

Follow your Kalani aftercare instructions and use broad-spectrum SPF consistently.

Most clients describe Pico Laser as a series of quick, warm or snapping sensations against the skin.

Comfort varies between treatment areas and individuals, but the treatment itself is generally quick.

Yes. Pico Laser can be used to reduce selected dark spots caused by concentrated pigmentation, including sun spots, freckles and age spots.

The laser targets pigment within the spot, allowing it to become progressively less visible following treatment.

Pico Laser isn't suitable for every type of pigmentation, and some pigmentation requires more than one treatment to achieve the best result.

Temporary redness, warmth, sensitivity and darkening of treated pigment can occur following treatment. More complex pigmentation, particularly melasma, also requires careful assessment before Pico Laser is recommended.

One Pico Laser session may produce noticeable improvement in some superficial pigmentation, while deeper, more widespread or long-standing pigmentation may require multiple treatments.

We'll assess the type and extent of your pigmentation and give you a realistic recommendation for the number of treatments you're likely to need.

Pico Laser results develop progressively over the weeks following treatment as the targeted pigmentation becomes less visible.

Some pigmentation may initially appear darker before it begins to fade. If you're completing a course of treatments, your result can continue to build with each session.

For suitable pigmentation, Pico Laser can produce significant visible improvement in sun spots, freckles, age spots and selected post-inflammatory pigmentation.

The type and depth of pigmentation, treatment settings, number of sessions and your individual skin response all influence the final result.

The most effective way to fade hyperpigmentation depends on what is causing it and where the pigment sits within the skin.

Professional skincare may be appropriate for some concerns, while established areas of concentrated pigment may respond better to an in-clinic treatment such as Pico Laser.

The first step is identifying the pigmentation correctly and choosing the treatment accordingly.

Pico Laser can significantly reduce the appearance of suitable freckles by targeting concentrated pigment within the skin.

Freckles can return or new freckles can develop with future sun exposure, making consistent sun protection important for maintaining your result.

Pico Laser may be suitable for post-inflammatory pigmentation—the flat brown or darker marks that can remain after acne has healed.

This is different from treating active acne or indented acne scars. If scarring or texture is the main concern, skin needling may be more appropriate.
